Green Mohawk

I decided to take Rowan and Kieran to a Mommy and Me type class at the local farm. In retrospect I might have been in over my head. The theme was "Leaf it Up". We started the class by gathering leaves outside and then bringing them in to paint. I should have known at that point it could go bad fast... As I was turned around to help Rowan, Kieran heard someone refer to the paintbrush as a brush. He immediately started brushing his hair with the paint filled brush. I scrubbed his poor little head when we got home, but to no avail. I was able to get most of the paint off his scalp, but his baby fine blonde hair is full of sticky paint. It seemed to be worse the next day as it now sticks up straight. It's looking like buzz cuts are in the near future for the boys...

Harbes Farm

We took the boys last weekend to Harbes Farm out east. What a rip-off! It was way overpriced and had very little in terms of attractions. The boys on the other hand had a blast. Kieran chased a rooster around, Rowan let goats and chicken eat his fingers. Both boys tried to snatch bunnies out of their little huts and basically ran around the fenced in part for 2 hours.

Atlantis Marine World....

The next day we went with grandma to Atlantis Marine World. Again, a great aquarium for kids and parents.
The boys have been a few times already, since we have a seasons pass. This time though, they were running between the tanks and actually looking at the fish. Kieran was screeching while running, making him cuter than he already is. They spent some time in the dig area looking for buried treasure. Kieran heard grandmas call the paint brush a brush, so he spent the time trying to brush his hair. Rowan was just happy to find "rocks".
Rowan and Kieran enjoyed the seal show, thank god it was only 15 minutes though.

The day was a success with sting ray touching, shark gazing and lots of running. This all resulted in super long naps for the boys and a nice relaxing afternoon for me.

Orient State Park

This past week we spent a few great days with Grandpa and Grandma Casey. On Monday Grandpa took the three of us to Orient State Park. I can't say enough nice things about this park!
The actual park is on the water which would immediately make you think oh no! The boys loved it and so did I. The big kid and little kid playground is separated by trees and park benches. This simple design eliminates a whole slew of problems for moms with little kids. Rowan and Kieran had a great time playing on the play structure that were just their size.
We ended the day by heading to Greenport village, where we ran on the green grass and looked at boats. Grandpa then treated all of us to Ice's, which the boys loved. They ended up needing a bath afterwards.

Dutchess County Fair

We took the boys to the fair a few weeks ago and they loved it! The experience this year was much different than last years. The boys are walking and climbing now, adding a whole new dimension to the trip. We did take precautions and tether them, I was a little embarrassed but it worked like a charm.
Kieran heard a rooster for the first time and all he could do was giggle.
Rowan spent much of his day trying to get into the animal pens. He thought the whole fair was one big climbing gym and he was in Heaven.
All in all it was nice day and we are looking forward to it next year.

Playdates Playdates Playdates

We have been on a playdate marathon lately, both hosting and attending. Todays playdate was a blast as usual. Rowan and Kieran have tired themselves out and are now enjoying an afternoon nap. They spent much of their time bouncing away in their bounce house. Rowan bounced so much he actually threw up, thank god it was outside the house.

Last week we went out to grandma Casey's for some afternoon pool time. Once again Rowan was willing to "swim" in the pool while Kieran was content to hang on the patio watching.
Rowan loved the water so much we would just walk off the edge of the deck into the pool. Thank god I was in there to help him, but seriously does this kid have no fear! Afterwards the boys took advantage of Grandma's new Big sink. It was actually nice to be able to wash them standing up and not kill my back.
We tried to take the boys to a juggling show in one of the local towns. It might have been more of a success if the juggler had showed up on time, instead we had two
antsy boys who ended up playing the the playground rather than watching the show.
Rowan and Kieran got new hats, just like Uncle Alex wears. Rowan hated his and Kieran loves his, it's so funny how they are completely different!

Playdate & a Fence

While at a girlfriends house I saw a fence her husband had put up, this sparked a fire under my butt. "Pat can do that, we need a fence". Fast forward 2 weeks, whoa-la a fence. The boys are now fenced in and I am loving it!! We have informal playdates several times a week now. This past week I hosted a large playdate for my twin group. While only 9 mom's rsvp'd, 22 kids showed up and had a blast! It was so much fun to have kids running everywhere, jumping, swimming and just plain having fun. By noon Rowan and Kieran were having meltdowns and desperately needed a nap. At one point I had to pull Rowan from the bounce house, he was laying in the middle crying from exhaustion, trying to nap while the kids are bouncing around him. This did not stop the party one bit though, it went strong to 3:30! Oh and take a look at the latest roadside find, a pink barbie jeep and it works!! Kieran loves to sit in it and play some Barbie toons. She has such a sexy voice..

18 Months and Counting

Well we have two very active 18 month olds, it's official! We have spent the summer exploring and learning. The boys had a trip to the local fire department with one of the mommy groups I belong to. Rowan ran all over the place and was very upset when we tried to corral him. Kieran was more content to just hang by our side and explore the fire truck.
On those hot days when you aren't sure what to do anymore, I gave the boys a few paint brushes and water. Kieran painted the deck nicely, Rowan just wanted to dunk his pacifier in the water and then dump all the water out. Maybe next time he'll get the idea.
We have officially given away the high chairs and the boys have moved up to boosters at the table. We had one last meal in the high chairs before a few friends picked them up. They seem to like eating at the table and we can finally eat as a family.

Rowan and Kieran had their 18 month checkup which was a blast, not. They have grown very weary of their pediatrician. Much of the visit is spent with me asking the doc to repeat himself since I can't hear him over the screams.

Rowan weighs in at 27 pounds and 7 ounces, his height is 34 inches
Kieran weight in at 26 pounds even, his height is 34 1/4 inches

Play-dates and Pools

Pat often jokes about the boys "social" calendar that hangs on the fridge. To be honest I find it much easier to have it packed with things to do than sit home all day everyday. Naturally it is sometimes a pain to pack everything up and load them into the car each morning but with Pat home these past three weeks it has been a breeze. We spent the morning at a friends house who has twin boys as well. Her boys are 2 and play very well with Rowan and Kieran. They spent the morning jumping in and out of their pool and seeing who was brave enough to enter the sprinkle mat.

Back to World of Blogging

It's was getting harder to blog, mostly because the computer in which we edited photos and videos was upstairs.  Not the best place to be when four little hands seems to get into everything.  We purchased a new laptop today with photo and video editing software, hoping this will solve some of our problems.  It's been a busy summer so far.  We have been trying to take advantage of every sunny day, packing the days with numerous playdates and local events for the boys.  A few weeks ago we took the boys to Cedar Beach, a nice north shore beach that has a walking path for strollers and pretty cool playground.  We didn't get out of the playground area but Rowan and Kieran had a blast.  No fear Rowan climbed the impossibly tall play structure.  He actually wanted to go down the crazy slide by himself.  Patrick quickly scooped him up and went down with him.  Kieran had fun playing in the areas more suited for his size.
We have spent some more time with the hose.  Both boys love drinking from it for some reason.  It really shows how well they share.

Another first happened this past month....  The boys are now allowed to eat whole fruit and they LOVE it!   Just this evening there was an foot race over an apple.  Rowan was running around the house trying to get away from Kieran so he could eat his.  Kieran had already finished his an apparently wanted more.  Rowan conceded by giving him the smallest chunk that had come off.  Kieran patiently waited for him to drop the apple, so he could swoop in and take it

We have ventured into Grandma and Grandpa's pool.  Well I should say Rowan has ventured in.  Kieran is still skeptical, preferring to hang on the sidelines.  Rowan doesn't want to get out.  He loves splashing in the water and being thrown up and down.
